Valley Metro provides public transit for the greater Phoenix area. Along with regular bus stops throughout the Valley of the Sun, you can also Park-n-Ride. Jump in your car, drive a short distance to one of 44 Park-n-Ride locations, then park and ride the bus or light rail to work. This is a fast, comfortable and economical solution for anyone with real estate in Phoenix, including Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Tempe or Mesa.
In early 2005, construction began on a new light rail system connecting Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa. This state-of-the-art transit system will be known as the METRO, and will be a tremendous convenience for those with homes in greater Phoenix, Arizona.
A 20-mile starter segment of the line which begins near Spectrum Mall at 19th Avenue and Bethany Home Road, travels through downtown Phoenix and Tempe and ends in Mesa near Dobson and Main is scheduled for completion in December 2008. Future METRO extensions are planned in Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, and Glendale. Though there are currently no plans to extend the line to Scottsdale or Paradise Valley, home owners in these areas are well served by buses that will connect with the new METRO Light Rail System.
For those unfamiliar with Light Rail, its an advanced type of public transit that runs on steel rails like a traditional train. The system serving metro Phoenix home owners will run at street level, but in its own lane. It will be separated from car traffic by a small divider, meaning it can move at much higher speeds than buses (which must share lanes with cars). The system is electric, and is powered by overhead lines.
Being electric, the entire METRO Light Rail System will generate virtually no pollution. Those with a luxury home in Scottsdale or Paradise valley will certainly appreciate this. The system is also very quiet, certainly much less noisy than a diesel bus.
The METRO Light Rail System will run on two separate tracks, one running in each direction. The trains will consist of up to three cars each and will travel between eighteen and twenty hours a day, seven days per week. Trains will run approximately once every ten minutes during rush hours, and every twenty minutes at other times. Those with Scottsdale real estate, or with homes anywhere in greater Phoenix, will appreciate the convenience of this service.
Not all owners of homes in Scottsdale or Paradise Valley like to drive. So you may be happy to hear that cyclists in metro Phoenix will be welcome aboard: therell be areas inside the trains for bicycles. Also, all of the stations will be equipped with lockers or bicycle racks.
